Sand Crab
Sand Crabs are monsters and enemies in Risk of Rain Returns.
Description
The Sand Crab is a 10-foot tall brown crustacean with large light brown pincers and yellow beady eyes.
It seems to hide under piles of sand and moss, digging itself in before popping up when prey is in sight.
Sand Crabs possess a brown chitinous exoskeleton, usually covered in leftover moss after digging itself up from the ground.
They have dark brown undersides, shifting to a deep blue hue further down their mouthparts.
Their legs are short and spindly, but move dexterously enough to match the speed of a Lemurian.
Behaviour
Sand Crabs behave very similarly to Rock Golems, lacking the ability to climb rope, jump, or cross wide ledges.
They attack by crushing their pincers together, dealing the same damage as a Rock Golem, with more or less the same attack speed.
They're comparatively larger than Rock Golems, and therefore have a wider hitbox. As such, they're immune to light attack knockback but not stuns.

A few hours after my crash, I finally decided to investigate the nearby area. As I moved past a particularly large mound of sand, it began to shift and roar. From it erupted a giant crab-like beast, standing above me at 10' with claws the size of a small man. The giant crab moves surprisingly fast for its size; the foliage growing on its back indicates that they stay still for long periods of time. This crab is either extremely patient or hibernates regularly.
After exhausting my supplies in taking it down, I salvaged what meat I could. Very chewy, but not unpleasant. Looking across the beach, I spot many similar mounds of sand. I must keep moving; daylight is coming.
Trivia
- While there exist real life crustaceans termed as sand crabs, the Risk of Rain Sand Crabs appear to resemble Terrestrial Crabs, specifically Cardisoma Carnifex, only having much larger pincers and bodies in relation to their leg size.
