Rock Golems are monsters and enemies in Risk of Rain Returns.

Description

Rock Golems are 10-foot tall humanoids comprised entirely of stone, soil, and moss. They're animated by an unknown force and are among the slowest creatures in Petrichor V.

They're gentle protectors that can use their slow, but powerful bulky arms to "clap" and generate tremendous amounts of force. Rock Golems revert back to the ground when they've sustained enough damage.

Behavior

The Rock Golem is slow but tough. It has one attack, in which it claps its hands together when in melee range, dealing a great amount of damage in front of it.

They cannot jump or climb but will loiter at the edge of cliffs if no survivor is in range.

It is easily beaten by staying out of range or isolating it to a ledge from which it cannot reach the player, or by walking past it while its performing its sluggish, telegraphed attack.

Rock golems are bulky enough to endure regular attacks, but are still susceptible to stuns.

Field Notes:

Now THEY are interesting. These Golems, which tower over me at 10' tall, are constructed from the soil and rock beneath my feet. After a brilliant red flash, the earth itself moves to create these constructs in 2 seconds flat. If I didn't know better, I would consider this.. magic.

Because of their material, they are extremely tough to take down. Using the same technology that constructs them, the Rock Golems are capable of creating a 'clap' which generates great amounts of energy. Damaging a golem eventually causes it to malfunction and die, returning to the ground.

Despite their powerful combat abilities, the golems are gentle to everybody but me, and can be seen 'playing' with wildlife.

Trivia

  • The rock golem's appearance changes throughout the biomes, appearing as a white "snow golem" in Ancient Valley, and the moss and greenery of the rock golem is replaced by a purplish fungus when in Sky Meadow where they are called "Luminous Golems".
  • Despite all golems being functionally the same, they are treated as different enemies by the game. As such, the player may encounter things like Snow Golems in the first stage when using Artifact of Dissonance.
