Child
Children are monsters and enemies in Risk of Rain Returns.
Description
Children are small humanoid beings, vaguely resembling human children.
Their entire body glows a singular, warm, bright yellow color, with dark dotted accentuations lined in a semicircle formation downwards from their neck.
Children lack any facial features, instead having a slight inward indentation where one’s face would be, highlighted in a brighter yellow color.
Children can often be found in groups, typically “playing” or otherwise spending time with each other, but they also appear in solitude. Despite their carefree appearance and seemingly innocent aura, they are aggressive to survivors and presumably other creatures.
Children seem to be able to project short, concentrated blasts of energy from their fingertips, specifically when their hands are in a “finger gun” position. This appears to be their main method of self defense and offense.
Behavior
Children possess average stats, slightly above the Lemurian’s, boasting slightly more speed and health. When in range of the player, the Child will point in a finger-gun fashion and shoot a point-blank range blast with an average cooldown.
Children are susceptible to staggers and stuns, and often appear in large groups, typically along with Parents, solidifying their similarities to Lemurians as a horde-fodder enemy.
Children are one of 4 enemies capable of climbing and attacking on ropes, the other three being Lynx Tribe, Lemurian and Clay Men.

These small beings fill me with dread.. From a distance I can see them frolicking among the rocks- playing with the other ghostly 'children'. I don't know how else to describe them, they seem so innocent until I approach.
Once I am spotted it as if some wicked switch is flipped and I am their plaything. While I can defeat the small groups, I fear I am only sealing my doom once their small, destroyed bodies are found.
Trivia
- In the game Risk of Rain 2, Children are not the youngest but are proven to be the oldest of the three (Child, Parent, and Grandparent). The log for the item Planula states that the Child lays the egg, the Grandparent incubates it, and the Parent hatches from the egg to be the caretakers for both.
