The UES Contact Light was a "space-train" type transport ship chartered by the United Enterprise Shipping Company. It departed from Mars on a long distance round trip delivery mission, carrying more than seven million tons of cargo and numerous passengers. During an unplanned detour, an intruder teleported aboard the ship and severely damaged it, causing it to crash-land on the uncharted planet Petrichor V, scattering its cargo and surviving passengers and crew members across the surface.

Some time into the Contact Light's trip, while enroute to the Procyon system, the crew received an unknown signal from the neighboring, mostly uncharted Petrichor system, prompting them to investigate. Five days into the unplanned detour, while in the orbit of Petrichor V, a mysterious robed figure used a teleporter placed in the cargo hold to board the ship and cause multiple severe hull breaches, killing most of the crew and passengers. The survivors fled the ship on escape pods as it crashed into the planet, leading to the events of Risk of Rain Returns.

The UES Contact Light is featured in-game as the setting of "Risk of Rain," the final stage of Risk of Rain Returns.

Trivia

The original design for the Contact Light from Risk of Rain (2013)
  • The UES Contact Light underwent a major redesign from the original Risk of Rain to Risk of Rain Returns. The design featured in Returns is significantly more compact, featuring fewer cargo holds and an extended crew deck.
  • Events and logbooks of Risk of Rain 2 suggest that Providence lured the Contact Light to the planet himself with the intent of downing it, believing its purpose to be rescuing his brother Mithrix from the moon Commencement, whom he imprisoned there due to fundamental disagreements about the nature of creation.
