Mechanical Spider are monsters and enemies in Risk of Rain Returns.

Description

Mechanical Spiders are four-legged mechanical constructs composed of a matte-gray metal with evident rusting and oil spillage all throughout their small form. Their jointed legs are mounted atop a small base, with a horizontal green light located below a small radar-like system.

Mechanical Spiders are able to expel small bursts of heat or cold from their base, depending on the environment they inhabit.

Behaviour

Mechanical Spiders are minor pests meant to overwhelm the survivor with their numbers and fast attacks. They possess a high health stat relative to their body mass, but have extremely low damage attacks.

Mechanical Spiders are unable to jump, climb ladders or fall off of ledges, but can still be interrupted with small staggers and stuns, making them especially susceptible to even regular attacks.

They shoot a single projectile at a time on a low cooldown that has high range and travels along the ground in a straight line. Due to their high spawn rates, Mechanical Spiders are only really a threat when in overwhelming numbers, where their combined attacks threaten low-mobility survivors with their area denial.

Field Notes:

The malware of our age! These mechanical parasites were probably lurking on the ship before the crash. Pirates will use these bugs to collect especially valuable cargo, redirect transmission signals, or even hijack ships. Spiders can be programmed with all kinds of malicious objectives.

In general they are quite difficult to find and eradicate on large vessels, but now that they're loose they seem to be able to operate outside of their software. They have retained their defense capabilities, and are risky to engange. Though, I wonder, how long will they continue to run without access to an electrical grid?
