Bighorn Bison
Bighorn Bison are monsters and enemies in Risk of Rain Returns.
Description
The Saturnian Bison, also known as the Bighorn Bison, is an enormous species of Bison native to the planet Saturn. They are much larger than earth bison and live in the Ancient Valley, and in the polar opposite of that region, the Magma Barracks.
The Bighorn Bison has long and shaggy brown fur, and three yellow orbs which are assumed to be eyes perched vertically atop one another on its face. It has two large, spiraling horns coming off the top of its head, and four muscular legs. The Bighorn Bison has a pattern of light-brown fur in a ring around its neck. The purpose of this is unknown; perhaps it is used for mating, or maybe to tell each other apart, like giraffe and zebra's patterns.
Behaviour
Bighorn Bison are tanky enemies with surprising mobility. They walk slowly towards survivors and after a short windup, initiate a charge attack that advances them a large distance forward, dealing heavy damage in the process.
Due to their large size, Bighorn Bison can cross one-tile gaps, an by extension use their attack to cross them. They cannot cross gaps larger than 2 tiles, as they cannot jump or drop off of ledges. They cannot be staggered but may still be stunned.
Spawning
Monster Log
The teleporter nearly launched me into a steaming dung heap. I could not have anticipated such an enormous beast being the source. More impressive than their rumbling bellows is the bighorn's charge. Their many tons of muscle produce a crushing slam of horn and matted hair.
When they are not stampeding after me I have observed these monsters using their massive heads to bludgeon rocks and fights amongst themselves. How can they expend so much energy on fruitless activity? Are they merely trying to keep from freezing?
